Whereas in earlier times Volnay was made in a particularly light, early drinking style, these days there are many producers making wines which age extremely well. Lucien Boillot makes a fantastic example. The nose is incredible, almost amaretto or frangipane like a plum frangipane tart, deep savoury yet fresh and light. Great fine red wine for a Christmas turkey or capon. One of the few reds we’d recommend for cheeses that don’t work well with tannins.
