CELEBRATING CARNAROLI
‘Sosta & Gusta’
Rice dates back over 9000 years, but Carnaroli is a rather recent addition, dating back to 1945, when Professor Emiliano Carnaroli, then President of the "Ente Nazionale Risi" (National Rice Body), crossed two varieties of rice, Vialone and Lencino. Now Carnaroli is revered by chefs worldwide as ‘the king of rices'
From 12 May to 12 June 2025, the Via Francigena, which is not only an historical-religious route but also a pathway for cultural, environmental, and gastronomic discovery, will take centre stage in an initiative that blends tradition, local heritage, innovation, culinary culture and sustainability, leading to the Agro-Environmental Jubilee of 2025. This event, created by the Strada del Riso dei Tre Fiumi Association in collaboration with key partners such as Slow Food Lombardia, Rice House & AIDA.
As part of the event Cristiana Sartori, president of the association and an organic rice farmer, together with naturalist and environmental hiking guide Piermaria Greppi, will embark on a unique journey: cycling nearly 2,000 km, from London to Rome, through England, France, Switzerland, ending in Italy. Along the way, they will stop at 12 locations along the Via Francigena each hosting an event celebrating 80 years of Carnaroli rice. Read more about the project
Join us at La Fromagerie Marylebone for the first stage of the journey with a supper hosted by Cristiana & Piermaria
