For the last two years we have put together a special festive entry in our popular Deep Dive series of talks and tasting. Usually we look at the history and culture of a single region through its fine wine, cheese, dish and produce but we take the opportunity every January to broaden the theme and bring in a collection of some of the finest wines and cheese in the world to tell the story of food and wine culture on a larger scale. 

The twentieth and twenty first centuries have produced some of the most innovative, controversial yet exceptional wines and cheeses in history. Producers like Didier Dagenau and Jacque Selosses and whole regions like the Jura have upset the hierarchy in France to point where wine in the 'old world' is still in the midst of a civil war today.

We have seen the Californian victors of the infamous 1976 Judgement of Paris move from the global status of upstart to become the conservative fine wine establishment of the 'new world'. The twenty first century has seen England become a serious player forming its own 'new world' of sorts from within Europe. 

We will explore this fascinating sea change bought about in just a few decades with a sublime old and new world fine wine flight paired with some controversial old and new world cheeses with their own fascinating stories to tell.
