German Cheese

From the north to the south, Germany is a cheese country, and influences from neighbouring countries have resulted in a diversity of styles. Bavarian Blue is reminiscent of Italian Gorgonzola, while Limburger is related to the Dutch and Belgian cheese Herve. Historically, monasteries were instrumental in creating cheese recipes, as well as beer, and cheeses with a washed rind are typical.
